Invasive species pose a severe threat to wild salmon and native freshwater ecology in West Cook Inlet. TTCD leads proactive surveillance, early detection, and rapid response initiatives across the 6.6-million-acre District.

  • Elodea Eradication: Successfully treated floatplane and salmon lakes in the Tyonek area, completely removing invasive Elodea to restore native aquatic vegetation.
  • Northern Pike Control: Implementing targeted suppression netting in Alexander Creek to mitigate pike predation on juvenile salmon smolt.
  • Community Early Detection: Educating pilots, boaters, and local residents to spot invasive plants and report sightings early.
